Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Your curriculum vitae provides an first impression of your career history. It should also include details about you as a person, your educational background, your achievements, additional qualifications and particular interests. It should be brief, well structured and in table format with a clear thread running through. Make sure you don’t leave out any important information.

Structure

  • Personal details: full name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, date and place of birth, nationality, marital status
  • Educational background: type of school/college/university and year of graduation
  • Further education
  • Military service
  • Career history: previous jobs (in reverse chronological order, i.e. starting with your current/last position, and including a brief description of responsibilities)
  • Internships, summer jobs (keep this brief)
  • Training, seminars, courses, etc.
  • Special skills (languages, computer skills, etc.)
  • Hobbies and interests (which either have a link to the vacancy or highlight your character, philosophy or lifestyle)
  • Date, place and signature

Photo
Choose a recent, good quality, flattering passport size photo and either attach it to your CV or the cover sheet of your application or scan it directly into your CV. The image should be appropriate to the vacancy in question, but not a full body pose. If you attach your photo to your CV, write your name on the back so that it can be easily identified if it gets inadvertently separated from the rest of the application. Save any electronic photos with your name (e.g. John_Doe.jpg).

References/Certificates
Your CV should be followed by copies of any letters of reference (starting with the most recent) and then any certificates detailing your educational qualifications (beginning with the highest qualification, e.g. your university degree certificate). Also include copies of certificates relating to any relevant or important training courses or internships.

If you are sending your application by e-mail, we recommend you zip all attachments for easier and safer transmission. Alternatively, copies of any certificates may also be brought to the interview.
